Ranking Joe @ The Astoria
Our first live music concert was with original Studio One recording artist, Rankin’ Joe, considered by reggae enthusiasts to be one of the first Dancehall style reggae artists in the world. So, it was appropriate to have him at the longest running and most popular dancehall weekly events, TING! This was a very successful concert with 200+ people attending, one of the largest crowds ever at TING! This event showed us that there is a niche market for reggae in Vancouver and revealed the want for more diversity in cultural music in Vancouver, so we made our commitment to serve this niche cultural market and local artists in Vancouver.
For every event with international touring reggae artists we organize, we make it our mandate to include local cultural artists, musicians, and DJ’s in order to help them grow in their careers. By nurturing local artists with opportunities to perform with high profile artists from around the world, they get not
only stage experience, but also time to talk to the artists for inspiration, mentoring, and advice on different aspects of the recording industry. Rankin’ Joe Live in Concert was the event that helped us crystallize our mandate which has been to bring international and Canadian artists to reggae fans in Vancouver while cultivating the careers of local artists by providing opportunities for them to grow and gain exposure for their artistic pursuits.
